7 Tips to Improve Your Skincare Regimen

Regular skincare allows your skin to recover and heal faster making it stronger to resist various environmental factors that could potentially damage it. Most women think skin care regimen is complicated and requires a lot of time, but that’s not true. This article will show you how to simplify your own skincare regime in order to accomplish more with less effort.

Simplifying Skincare Regime

1. Your Wrinkle Cream Should Multi-task

In order to get more out of your wrinkle cream, it should be beneficial for other areas of your body where wrinkles can develop like neck and chest. Most women make the same mistake; they focus on facial skin and neglect the delicate skin on neck and chest where wrinkles can also develop. Therefore, include your neck and chest into your daily routine.

2. Use Products For Your Skin Type

Products for oily, dry, combination, sensitive or normal skin are formulated to address the needs of these skin types. Basically, if you use products made for different skin type, your skin becomes more sensitive and prone to redness, irritations, and other skin problems.

3. Portion Control

According to Miami-based dermatologist Fredric Brandt, more isn’t merrier when it comes to skincare products. Over-applying products won’t make your skin become healthier and smoother. Applying products with “heavy hand” clogs pores and that’s the last thing we want. Ideally, half a teaspoon of facial moisturizer or other products is enough for your face, and another half a teaspoon is enough for neck and chest.

4. Skip Moisturizers That Only Moisturize

Moisturizers should do more than just retaining moisture in the skin according to Carl Thornfeldt, MD, a dermatologist based in Fruitland, ID. Regular moisturizers that don’t offer rejuvenating effects only retain the moisture and don’t offer other valuable benefits to your skin. Therefore, in order to simplify your skincare routine, look for moisturizers that provide rejuvenating and revitalizing effects that will hydrate your skin while making it youthful-looking.

5. Ditch Cleansing Wipes

Why? Instead of cleaning your skin, they just smear bacteria, makeup and other impurities on your skin. In order to remove various impurities and prevent clogged pores that could lead to acne outbreaks, you need to remove makeup in old-fashioned way followed by water rinsing action.

6. Don’t Forget Sunscreen

Sunscreen is often overlooked and is used only in summer. However, you should use this product every day (regardless of the weather and season). Sun’s UV rays break down collagen in your skin and impair elasticity that leads to the accelerated appearance of wrinkles and photo-aging. Applying sunscreen should be your last step of daily skincare routine.

7. Apply Products In The Right Order

In order to get the most out of your skincare products and daily routine, you have to apply them in the right order. Products with thinner consistency should always be applied before creamier ones, elaborates New York City dermatologist Dennis Gross, MD.

Bearing in mind the mistake that most women make, Solvaderm created a guide of daily skincare routine that provides the correct sequence of products. Here it is:

  1. Cleanser - It removes sebum, sweat, makeup and other impurities. The ideal facial cleanser is powerful yet gentle on the skin.
  2. Toner - Toners remove the tiniest traces of impurities and revitalizes and re-energizes your skin.
  3. Serum - They are ideal for treating the target area. For example, if you have age spots and want to remove acne, acne scars and blemishes, dark circles under eyes. You use serums by applying them to affected areas where they tackle the problem without affecting other areas of your face.
  4. Moisturizer - Is one of the most important parts of skincare routine. It retains moisture in the skin leaving it hydrated and nourished throughout the day. Moreover, moisturizers make sure your skin gets all nutrients and vitamins it needs to stay smooth and healthy.
  5. Eye cream - They minimize puffiness, dark circles and under-eye bags. They moisturize and hydrate delicate skin under your eyes and slow down the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  6. Night cream - Your skin heals itself when you sleep and for this purpose it requires a “rich” product that provides nourishment, hydration, and boosts collagen production.
  7. Exfoliant - Exfoliation is done 2 to 3 times a week and is essential for the healthy, smooth, and youthful-looking skin. Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells and accelerating cell renewal.
